He is Iconic, without a doubt his face is instantly recognized on every continent and in every culture, he is one of the best known sport figures on Earth, his life story goes beyond boxing, he is considered a hero, a symbol of peace and a humanitarian who has eased the suffering of hungry children, he is a living legend and one of the most influential persons of the twentieth century. Today he celebrates his seventieth birthday.

Muhammad Ali was born on January 17, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky and celebrated his seventieth birthday at Louisville's Muhammad Ali Centre last Saturday, were he was honoured by a great fete with a star-studded guest list that included musicians, politicians, coaches, journalists and sport-personalities who all turned up to wish The Greatest a Happy Birthday.

In an interview with Shortlist; legendary former rival, George Foreman, paid tribute to Ali, describing him as a gift to the world, a prophet, a hero and a revolutionary.

Former Heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis, said, “He’s still the greatest, he’s not just the greatest in the ring. You look at what he’s done outside the ring, his bravery, poise and sacrifice — he’s truly a great man.”

The Muhammad Ali Center, a museum and cultural center built as a tribute to the champion athlete and his values, is located in Louisville, Kentucky's "Museum Row" in the West Main District of downtown.

The six-story, 96,750 sq ft (8,988 m2). museum opened on November 19, 2005 at a cost of $80 million. It also includes a 40,000 sq ft (3,700 m2). two-level amphitheatre and plaza, to be connected to the Louisville Museum Plaza upon its construction.

The cultural centre features exhibitions regarding Muhammad Ali's core values on respect, confidence, conviction, dedication, charity, and spirituality.
