STRIKEFORCE: OVEREEM VS WERDUM
Held Saturday, June 18, 2011, at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas.
The main event featured the Heavyweight Grand Prix tournament fight between Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum. The bout hardly was the exciting match many had expected. Overeem showed little of his famous striking skills and Werdum seemed content in trying to pull guard. Werdum actually seemed to land the harder punches in the standup but may have cost himself the decision by his desperate attempts to pull guard. Overeem fought a smart fight in that he refused to follow Werdum into his guard and would force the referee to have Werdum stand. Werdum seemed to gas as the fight progressed and was slow to stand each time.

The main event saw Matt Krayco remain undefeated at 2-0 by submitting Lee Palichuk. Once Krayco worked the fight to the mat, it was an onslaught of submission attempts until he was finally able to lock in the Kimura and force the tap at 1:15 of round one. In the co-main event, Ronda Rousey (2-0) was able to make good use of her Judo skills against kickboxer Charmaine Tweet. Rousey was able to get inside of Tweet and take her down but Charmaine was quickly back to her feet. The next time Rousey took her down, Ronda made a lightning fast transition to an armbar that forced the tap at 0:49 of the first round. After this performance, look for Rousey to be entertaining offers from one of the larger MMA organizations.
